Dr. Brian T. Musselman is an aerospace professional with experience as an educator, scientist, researcher, analyst, accident investigator, and meta-leader. Brian is a board-certified aerospace physiologist specializing in full pressure suit operations and training, high-altitude physiology education, and hypobaric chamber and human centrifuge training. Brian has specialty training in and has performed on-site investigation for 5 major aviation accidents. He has consulted on aerospace medical, human factors, and engineering aspects of over 100 accidents. Brian has supported human factors efforts with various projects including, but not limited to, the Northrop Grumman’s Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO); Red Bull STRATOS space jump; U.S. Air Force Transport Isolation Systems for on-aircraft transport of COVID-19 patients; U.S. Air Force F-22A Life Support System Task Force and F-35A and T-6A hypoxia-like event investigations; and U.S. Air Force U-2S Cockpit Altitude Reduction Efforts with associated risk management plans for rapid decompression and life support system anomaly.
Brian was the Squadron Commander of the only Physiological Support Squadron in the U.S. Air Force, and served as a U.S. Air Force Medical Group and Vice Wing Commander. Brian also led a team of aircrew, aviation maintenance, occupational safety, and aerospace physician, psychology, and physiology professionals in assessing the safety and effectiveness of large, operationally diverse organizations. Additionally, he has served as an aircraft maintenance and munitions officer and a patient safety analyst. Finally, Brian taught academic courses for the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, Iraqi Air Force, Safety University, and School of Aerospace Medicine.
Brian has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Northcentral University, and a Master’s degree in Aviation Safety Systems and a Ph.D. in Aviation, Human Factors and Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Brian also has a Master’s of Strategic Studies from Air University as a graduate of Air War College. He is the former president of the Aerospace Human Factors Association, certified advanced rescue SCUBA diver, and FAA private pilot and advanced ground instructor. Dr. Musselman is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel with 27 years of service.
Brian currently resides in Albuquerque, NM. He is an university adjunct faculty and looks forward to continuing his research on willingness to fly as a space tourist. Brian enjoys executing life’s adventures with his spouse and daughter.
