BRITA ZAIA, M.D.

Dr. Brita (Brie) Zaia is an Emergency Medicine physician in San Francisco, California. 

Dr. Zaia has worked clinically in Emergency Departments across the northern California Bay Area since 2005 when she started her Emergency Medicine Residency program at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California. She discovered her passion for both medical education and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) during her Emergency Medicine residency, after which she completed a fellowship in POCUS at Stanford University. 

Dr. Zaia currently serves as the Assistant Department Chief and Director of POCUS in the Emergency Department at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center, Co-Director of regional emergency POCUS education for the Kaiser northern California region, and Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor in Emergency Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. Dr. Zaia’s professional interests include POCUS, medical education, austere medicine, and process improvement. She continues to broaden her knowledge and experience in these areas through full-time clinical work, leadership roles, teaching, and on-going course learning involving a wide range of topics including aerospace medicine and process improvement. 

Outside of work, Brie’s interests include trail running, kayaking, traveling, and spending time with her dog, as well as her family and friends.
