GERALD ‘WAYNE’ SURRETT, M.D.
Director, Clinical and Operational Medicine
Dr. Gerald ‘Wayne’ Surrett is a highly experienced medical professional who has served in the US military for over 30 years. He has a diverse background in special forces, starting as an Infantryman and later becoming a Green Beret, Engineer, Demolitions expert, and Combat Medic. He completed his undergraduate degree in Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Maryland, attended medical 19 of 22 school at The Uniformed Services University, and completed a medical residency in Family and Community Medicine. Wayne has also completed two post-residency fellowships in Emergency Medicine and Austere and Wilderness Medicine. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has completed many courses and certifications that have played pivotal roles throughout his career while deployed to every continent and environment on Earth (sans Antarctica).
Throughout his career, Wayne has held various positions, from SF ODA team medic to Joint and Multinational positions, to the Global Combatant Command Surgeon and advisor to the 4 Star Commander of the Theater of Operations.
He is an Army Flight Surgeon and a Navy Diving Medical Officer, serving extensively in those positions in Special Operations. Wayne is also a paratrooper, pathfinder, and Special Operations combat diver. In addition to his medical expertise, Wayne is a skilled leader and completed a MBA during a sabbatical year from military operational medicine. He has also earned additional certifications in Homeland Security, North American Regional Studies, and Defense Support of Civil Authorities.
Wayne currently resides in Colorado with his family. He is an artist and enjoys outdoor activities such as mountain biking, scuba diving, and snowboarding.
